We stay at Muskallonge Lake State Park. This is a park sandwiched between Muskallonge Lake and Lake Superior — a great place to stay even though the sites are a little small for the bigger rigs.
A special treat
From our base here, we visit the Soo Locks. We get an opportunity to see the US Coast Guard and the Canadian Coast Guard share a lock passage down bound into Lake Huron. A special treat for us as we are especially fond of the Coast Guard fleet of men and women.

In the second lock we watch as the freighter, “American Spirit” makes the same voyage as the other two smaller vessels. The interpretive center here is very helpful to learn about all the history and operation of the locks. It was more enjoyable than I anticipated.

White Fish Point
We also visited White Fish Point and the Great Lakes Maritime Museum. Very well done in their presentation of the shipwrecks along the point, the history of the light house keepers, and the beginning of the rescue efforts that were performed by the men who would do rescue missions after the shipwrecks or in time of other peril on the waters. I enjoyed this museum because it gave me an opportunity to envision life on the Great Lakes by these men, women, and families that lived outside
what most would consider a common lifestyle.

Taquamenon Falls
While in this area, we made a visit to the infamous Taquamenon Falls, both upper and lower. We also had lunch and dinner at the brewery at the Upper Falls. The food was quite good both times. Would recommend the restaurant to others. While in the Munising area, we visited several falls including Miner Falls and Munising Falls.
