Before leaving Freeport we decide to do something we have not done in about five weeks. We get up early and go out for breakfast…one of Ed’s favorite things to do.
Just as we get up to leave we make eye contact with the couple at the table behind us. We exchange pleasantries but then continue into about a 15 minute conversation. We discover they are from Texas, traveling by car, retired and seeing the country while their health is good. Sounds familiar. We also discover that their destination today is same as ours, Acadia National Park. We say goodbye to Jim and Monica and joke about maybe running into each other somewhere in the Park in the next few days.
Around 3PM we are in Bar Harbor, all set up, and ready to make our first entry into the park. Yes, this is a bucket list item. Every traveler we have ever encountered has been expressive about the need to visit Acadia, the favorite National Park of most seasoned travelers.
The visitor center is the first place to go at the entry to the park. As we are walking up to the building, a red car pulls up beside us and Jim sticks his head out to say howdy. The four of us are flabbergasted to meet here and now…having only parted about 6 hours previously in a restaurant almost 100 miles away. We chat some more and part once again with phone numbers and hopes to do some biking together. Ed and I do not believe in coincidences, including the people we encounter in our daily lives. We are looking forward to seeing if God wants to put the four of us together on our journey through this area.
We only have time for a short drive on The Loop Road before the sun begins to set. We are surrounded by beauty. The mountains, the water and streams, the air itself are a wonder to enjoy as we head back to camp with much anticipation for the coming days adventures.
