The last two days have been spent mostly in the park.
Yesterday we got our bearings so we can plan our bike rides and our kayak float. Today there is a high surf warning due to the Nor’easter expected to hit land later this evening. Kind of exciting to be in Maine with a Nor’easter on the horizon. More on that after this night is over. It is hard to pick pictures to post. This park is stunning. It seems that you can have a camera in your hand and no matter which way I turn there is a photo opportunity that I just can’t resist. These are some from yesterday.
The infamous Thunder Hole One of the mountain views
The roadside stops
While driving the loop road through the park there are numerous places to stop beside the road and observe the scenery. We were told that our timing was great as the next couple of days the color will peak here in the park.

Academy Award Winner
This afternoon we decided to take a hike. We were encouraged to take the Great Head trail from the end of Sandy Beach which took us up over the bluffs of the beach and Thunder Hole in the distance. With the Nor’easter on the horizon, the surf was pounding across the black boulders in the water. The Atlantic was showing her muscle today.
Shortly after we started the trek up the trail, we encountered another couple. They had the big expensive 35 mm cameras with the gigantic lenses. We watched as the fella in particular took pictures of small things on the floor of the trail or hanging in the trees. We thought it odd and Ed walked up and said to him, “You must be taking pictures for special effects or something.” He very humbly smiled and asked if Ed had artistic instincts. Ed told him no…he was just an outdoorsman. Before the casual encounter was over we had learned that his name is Robert Stromberg and he is an Academy Award Winner for art direction. He directed the special effects for the movie Avatar, Oz the Great and Powerful, and Alice in Wonderland. From that he has become a movie director and just finished “Maleficent” which opens in theaters soon. I asked if I could take his picture for our grandson, Alex, who is a big movie fan. His companion suggested that she take my picture with him so here it is.

He was a very kind and humble man and it was cool to talk with him and his friend. We still are blown away by the people that we encounter on our adventures. We love it when this happens!
Flat Nathan and Travis get some photo time
The boys had some fun today. We all hung out for a few minutes trying to get the best picture of the entrance sign. The boys won…we lost.
We also got Nathan to pose at the top of the trailhead and along the rocky coast.
Tomorrow we plan to get some things done at the RV while we wait out the rain from the Nor’easter.
